GTAS Scheme Manuals

GTAS is a suite of standards in seven separate manuals. You choose one or more of the manuals that are applicable to your business.

  1. SCHEME MANUAL

The Scheme Manual applies to all certifications. It includes the Gafta International Standard of Best Trade Practice, scheme protocols and explains the audit and certification process.

  1. BULK STORAGE AND HANDLING

The Code of Practice for storage and handling of combinable crops and animal feed materials from farm onward.

Certification can be obtained for compliance with the EU Renewable Energy Directive.

  1. TRANSPORT OF GOODS BY ROAD

The Code of Practice for the transport of goods by road from farm and store to end-user premises.

  1. ANALYSIS AND TESTING

The Code of Practice for facilities testing the quality and condition of goods for general purposes at intake laboratory/testing facilities as used at stores, elevators, silos etc. The code aims to establish uniform standards and best practice for analysis throughout the supply chain.

NOTE: This Code of Practice is not intended to cover the establishment of qualities in relation to Gafta contracts, for which analysts must be members of the Gafta Analysts Scheme.

  1. SUPERVISION, SAMPLING AND WEIGHING

A code of practice for Superintendents and Surveying companies is provided for supervision operations covering sampling and weighing, load compartment inspections etc.

Certification under GTAS is one way to meet the requirements of the Gafta Superintendents Code of Practice that requires compliance with a recognized quality management system. 

  1. TRADING AND MERCHANTING

This code of best practice comprises a set of minimum standards for companies and individuals operating as Traders or Merchants who trade and handle grain and feed (including exports and imports) including transport by sea, waterway and rail. Reference is made to contract negotiation and guidance is given on recall/withdrawal of goods and the Gafta Arbitration and Dispute Resolution Services.

This manual also covers Brokerage companies wishing to obtain certification under the scheme. 

Certification can be obtained for compliance with the EU Renewable Energy Directive.

  1. FUMIGATION AND PEST CONTROL

The code of best practice for fumigators operating in-ship (and other types of transport), in store and silo including detailed guidance on pest control techniques and spray treatment of insecticides.
