GTAS is Changing

In July 2017, Gafta announced changes to the GTAS scheme.

The press release can be found here GAFTA PRESS RELEASE 04-07-17

Plans include ceasing to offer assurance to GTAS Bulk Handling and Storage and GTAS Transport of Goods by Road.

The remaining parts of the scheme will be rebranded in the coming months and future development will focus on our fumigation, supervision, analysis and trading manuals bringing the scheme more closely aligned to the Gafta Approved Registers creating a much more international reach. Longer term plans will focus on extending the Approved Registers and the development trade assurance training courses.

An 18 month plan has been put in place to enable members of these schemes an adequate transition period:

  • Until 31 December 2017 all members will be able to renew as normal.
  • From 1 January 2018 members will be unable to renew their GTAS membership and will need to transfer to an alternative scheme. No new members will be able to join the scheme from this date.
  • From 1 January 2019 the GTAS Bulk Handling and Storage and GTAS Transport of Goods by Road modules will no longer exist.
