Gafta has published a draft of the Gafta Standard for Fumigation and Pest Control, which is a revision of the GTAS Manual for Fumigation and Pest Control (Version 6.0, effective from 1 April 2015).

 Draft Gafta Standard for Fumigation and Pest Control

The Gafta Standard for Fumigation and Pest Control will form the main requirement for Gafta Fumigation Operator Members (Category J) becoming listed on the new Register of Approved Fumigators. The Register will be launched on the 1 June 2018 and all Gafta Category J members who successfully complete a physical audit to the revised Standard will be automatically listed on the Register.

Views are sought from Members and stakeholders on the proposed changes. All feedback is welcome, however respondents may wish to focus on the following areas:

  1. The requirements of the Gafta Standard for Fumigation and Pest Control (draft).
  2. The requirements of the Approved Register of Fumigators, as laid out in Appendix A of the Standard.
  3. The proposal to make the Gafta Fumigation Rules 132 mandatory to the contract.
  4. The proposed timescales for implementation of the changes.

Comments on the layout and design of the Standard are also welcome.

Summary of Proposed Changes and Key Dates

  • 14 December 2017 - Draft Gafta Standard for Fumigation & Pest Control published. Views sought from members through 6 week consultation period.
  • 26 January 2018 - Consultation period on Draft Gafta Standard closes.
  • 1 March 2018 - Gafta Standard for Fumigation & Pest Control (effective 1 June 2018) is published.
  • 1 June 2018 - Audits commence to the revised Gafta Standard for Fumigation & Pest Control. Gafta Approved Register for Fumigators is launched.
  • 1 June 2019Gafta Fumigation Rules 132 become mandatory where fumigation is required. Fumigators listed on the Approved Register must be used.
