The Gafta Professional Development (GPD) programme offers a range of educational opportunities, with anywhere between ten to fifteen courses held worldwide annually. The GPD programme currently consists of four courses:

  • Trade Foundation Course
  • Commodity Contracts Course
  • Commodity Shipping Course
  • Commodity Dispute Resolution Course

Delivered through a mix of presentations, class discussions, practical exercises and case studies, these courses vary in length from two to four days with each day divided into subject sessions. Successful completion of each is based on passing an end of course examination. Our locations and dates change annually. Future training courses can be viewed on our current calendar.

What should I wear?
The dresscode for Gafta courses is smart-casual. Suits are not required.

Is accommodation included in my booking fee?
No, accommodation and travel are not included in any booking fees.

Is the networking drinks included in my booking fee?
Yes, every GPD course booking includes a free ticket to the associated networking reception.

How do I access pre-course reading?
Any pre-course information will be emailed to you prior to the course.

Am I assessed when I take a GPD course?
Yes, the assessment is in the form of a 1-hour exam consisting of approximately 20 questions, taken at the end of the course.

Do I get a certificate?
Only students who pass the exam (or the re-take) will gain a certificate. There is no certificate of participation.

What happens if I fail the exam?
Every student gets the opportunity for one free retake of the exam if they fail. The exam assesses the basic level of knowledge we expect people to understand from the course, so students who fail both the first exam and the retake paper are deemed to have not understood the material as thoroughly as expected. In this case, delegates are advised to take the course again on another occasion.
