Commodity Dispute Resolution (GPD Course) | 25-26 March 2020 | Warsaw, Poland

This two-day course gives delegates a thorough exploration of what happens when a contractual dispute arises in the commodities sector. Through a comprehensive mix of presentations, interactive sessions and exercises, attendees will learn not only how to effectively mitigate risks, but also what they should do after a dispute arises, including how to prepare for an arbitration.

The course is part of the Gafta Professional Development (GPD) programme, which enables trade professional to advance their careers in the industry by taking the Trade Diploma and potentially going on to become Gafta Arbitrators.


This course is designed to maximise industry networking opportunities and attendees will have a chance to work together in groups as well as attend a drinks reception on the evening of the 25 March.

At the end of each GPD course is an exam, which students have up to 1 hour to complete.

The exam is a mixture of multiple choice and free-text questions. There are no essays required within the exam. It is open book, so students can use all their notes and course materials to help them complete it.

Should a student fail, they will get 1 chance to retake, which can be done online. Retakes must be completed within 5 days of the link being issued. Failure to pass the retake means that the student has failed the course and is advised to re-book onto the next date.


Candidates who pass the exam will gain a certificate for the course. There are no certificates of participation/attendance for GPD courses, only for students who pass the exam.

Exam results are usually issued within 1 week of the course.

Exam rules

  • Must be completed in silence
  • Maximum of 1 hour to complete
  • Only 1 paper per student
  • Only 1 retake per student


Students discovered conferring during the exam, or papers received which are identified as copies will receive an automatic failing grade for their paper and be required to re-rake the exam.

Who should attend?

This course is aimed at trade professionals who:

  • Are experienced in the trade but need detailed knowledge of the principles and processes of dispute resolution
  • Want to work towards becoming Gafta arbitrators
  • Have a good understanding of the trade but want to mitigate their risks if disputes arise

The dresscode for Gafta training is smart-casual. Suits are not required.
