EU Commission publishes recommendations to monitor ERGOT and PFAS in Feed
The Commission published Recommendation 1243/2026 on the monitoring of the presence of ergot in feed on 15th June. The regulation asks EU member states and feed business operators to take samples of cereals and products, compound feed and grasses to perform monitoring of ergot in feed, when possible the sclerotia content. Data to be provided to EFSA on a regular basis and by 30th June 2028.

EU starting monitoring of PFAS in feed –
Also published today 16th June, EU Recommendation 1307/2026 on the monitoring of PFAS in feed due to the limited data available on presence at moment. Aim is to determine the carry over rates from feed to food of animal origin and see if Maximum levels are needed. Occurrence data should be gathered and also in the soil. Member states and feed business operators should monitor during 2026,2027, 2028 mostly on fish, seaweed meal, feed of mineral origin, liquid feed and compound feed containing fish etc. Reporting to European Food Safety Authority by 30 June 2029
