Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala: WTO Director General shared her “Thoughts and Vision for the Next Four Years” at the last General Council meeting in WTO.
She mentioned need to deliver results on legacy agreements and WTO reform and so institution is fit for purpose for 21st century challenges.
Need to deliver on agricultural negotiations by MC14 in Cameroon which must deliver results for least developed countries.
On longer term, work on new agreements supporting industrialisation, increase value addition and supply chain decentralisation to developing members, relook at Subsidies and Countervailing measures agreement, reexamine goods and services agreement with a limited scope to advance green transition and fight climate change, look at Food Security and Sustainable Agriculture to sieze advantages of AI, precision farming, and water.
