In the December 2024 issue, Gafta President, Rebecca Jones, reflects on the achievements of Gafta over the year, enhanced by collaboration with several international and European organisations. Discussions at the United Nations have been particularly important this year, including participation in the Committee on World Food Security (CFS) and the important work for the trade on simplifying seedcake entries in UN Model Regulations at the Sub-Committee of Experts on the Transportation of Dangerous Goods. The latest news on progress with regard to Gafta's proposal, drawn together by June Arnold and members of Gafta, is detailed in this edition.
Iryna Moroz and Viktor Pasichnyk of AGA Partners discuss a recent UK Supreme Court ruling on offers of non-contractual performance when force majeure is invoked by a party. They conclude "the wording of contracts gains even more importance, as courts will consider only offers of contractual performance as those the party invoking the force majeure clause must accept."
Johny Boerjan of SGS discusses some of the latest findings with regard to mycotoxin contamination and the need for correct sampling as detailed in Gafta 124 Sampling Rules. His company is involved in the development of an early detection system for mycotoxin contamination in European cereal crops using machine learning and big data.
