As you maybe aware, Gafta is discussing seedcake entries within the UN Transport of Dangerous Goods committee and also in International Maritime Organisation proposing changes to streamline seedcake entries across all UN codes (attached last submission).
Action: We are calling on members to see if you would have access to samples of Soybean cake, rapeseed cake, sunflower seed cake and cotton seed cake that would eventually show levels > 4% oil and >13% moisture.
We have already submitted papers and data to the UN supporting 4% oil and 13% moisture for four seedcakes (SBM, SFSM, RSM, CSM) during the UN model regulation discussions. This proposal would mean a UN N4 Self Heat test is carried out only above 4% and 13% thresholds and if negative commodities could still be shipped as non- dangerous.
Country representatives are requesting that Gafta provide data to illustrate what happens to commodities with levels above 4% moisture and 13% moisture and samples with high levels in Soybeanmeal, rapeseedmeal, sunflower seedmeal, cottonseed meal samples are not available anywhere as oil is extracted. As a result we are trying to find samples of cake which will likely have higher levels present.
Please could you share any feedback or reach out to Gafta by 28 of February as we need to include in our next submission to the UN @June Arnold.
