Coceral PRESS RELEASE
Brussels, 11 March 2025 - In its second forecast for the 2025 crop, COCERAL sees the total grain crop in the EU-27+UK at 296.1 mln t. This would be up from the 278.2 mln t harvested in 2024, but slightly down from the 297.8 mln t projected in December.
Wheat production (excluding durum) is expected to increase from 125.1 mln t to 137.2 mln t. However, the crop forecast is lower than the 140.4 mln t predicted in December. Overall, a higher area and a return to normal yields in Western Europe should lead to a better crop than last year, but lower than initially expected plantings in France and the UK have started to weigh on the production outlook. The EU-27+UK 2025 barley production is forecast at 58.8 mln t, up from 57.8 mln t in 2024 but slightly down from the previous 59.7 mln t.
The EU-27+UK 2025 corn crop is seen increasing year-on-year to 63.3 mln t (2024: 58.9 mln t). This is also higher than the previous forecast of 61.9 mln t. The crop will be much higher in the Balkan countries, but slightly lower in Germany and France. The EU-27+UK rapeseed crop is forecast to recover from 18.0 mln t last year to 20.0 mln t in 2025, mainly because of a return to a normal planting pattern in Romania and Bulgaria and a recovery in yields in France and Germany. However, the forecast is marginally down from the 20.3 mln t expected in December.
