Following our last circular GN/2024/092, please note the EU Commission published Regulation 2024/3153 updating the list of high-risk food and feed imported from third countries and subject to temporary increased official controls. The Regulation entered into force 20 days after publication on 19th December 2024.
Some changes include changes in frequency of testing and provision of certificates for seasame imports, black eyed beans, peppers, cumin etc.
- Sesamum seeds from Ethiopia have been subjected to an increased level of official controls and to special conditions at their entry into the Union due to the risk of contamination by Salmonella since January 2019. With an improvement in compliance, it is not necessary to continue to provide that each consignment is to be accompanied by an official certificate stating that all results of sampling and analysis show compliance. Therefore, the entries on Sesamum seeds from Ethiopia in point 1 of Annex II should be deleted and transferred to Annex I, with a frequency of identity and physical checks set at 50 % of consignments entering the Union.
- Sesamum seeds from India have been subjected to an increased level of official controls and to special conditions at their entry into the Union due to the risk of contamination by ethylene oxide since October 2020. The official controls carried out by the Member States show improvement in compliance therefore, while an increased level of official controls is still appropriate, the level of 30 % of consignments entering the Union is no longer justified for that commodity and the frequency of controls should be decreased to 20 % of consignments.
