Please note that we understand that EU member states have asked for changes to the proposed approach by the European Commission in terms of EU retaliation on US steel/aluminium tariffs.
Member states are requesting to open discussion on all retaliatory lists from 2018 and the new March draft list. Since the new US tariffs are significantly broader in scope and affect a significantly higher value of European trade, the Commission is considering building a third list to increase products/value. The intention is that these various lists would all be consolidated into one list. Member states will in the meantime negotiate products on various lists.
The EU Consultation on the draft list of March remains open until 26th March and companies can submit comments.
EU Consultation survey:
It is likely that EU member states will vote on the “newly consolidated list” on 7/8 April.
It is expected the package would enter into force mid-April.
Gafta will send further news when more concrete details are available.
