The EU is proposing to amend the maximum residue levels for copper on cereals, pulses, oilseeds spices etc. There are significant decreases in MRLs for some commodities – see attached table. Should you have concerns with the proposed maximum residue levels proposed in the draft table, please inform junearnold@gafta.com and by 26th September.
The EU Commission and member states will discuss this draft at the next regulatory meeting in Brussels 2/3 October. A vote on the draft is expected towards the end of November. Please verify company monitoring data and if members raise concerns with the proposed levels, Gafta will address concerns to the EU Commission ahead of the next meeting. Some examples include:
Proposal to reduce MRLs on Cereals
Barley from 10 to 8 mg/kg
Common millet from 10 to 8 mg/kg
Oats from 10 to 5mg/kg
Rice from 10 to 4 mg/kg
Rye from 10 to 5 mg/kg
Wheat from 10 to 7 mg/kg
Levels should increase for sorghum and buckwheat
Proposals to reduce MRLs on oilseeds: For example:
Soybean from 40 to 20 mg/kg
Rapeseed from 30 to 3 mg/kg
Mustard seed from 30 to 6 mg/kg
Other oilseeds also reduced
Proposals to reduce MRLs on pulses for example:
Beans from 20 to 15 mg/kg
Lentils from 20 to 15 mg/kg
Peas from 20 to 10 mg/kg
Lupins from 20 to 15 mg/kg
Others from 20 to 10 mg/kg
