Hold Cleanliness
The preparation of cargo holds for the next intended carriage is an important operational consideration on all bulk vessels. Especially if the next intended cargo is a grain cargo. This module will explain what is required to make a hold satisfactorily clean. The common issues will be discussed, plus how the signing-off process works in practice.
At the end of this module, the learner should be able to:
- Explain why different cargoes require different degrees of hold cleanliness.
- Understand the terminology used in describing cleanliness requirements, and explain the common standards.
- Explain how hold inspections work in practice, and identify the obligations of all involved.
- Identify common problems.
