Quality and condition

Preface: The parties should determine the quality at the time of negotiating the contract and when the quality specifications will apply i.e. at the time of; loading, discharge, collection or delivery.

This module will provide information about standard quality and condition requirements when trading agricultural commodities.

At the end of this module, the learner should be able to:

• Identify many of the characteristics, elements and contaminants that can affect the quality of the products.
• Discuss quality assurance and explain what steps can be taken to ensure the quality of the products.
• Identify which substances are harmful.
• Confidently explain what could affect the quality and the condition of the goods, and why.
• Understand the terms referred to in Gafta contracts that relate to quality and condition.
