Salvage:
This module explores the legal and operational elements of maritime salvage. It will introduce students to the foundational concepts such as the "no cure, no pay" principle, and the criteria for a valid salvage claim. It also examines the law and rules governing salvage operations, most notably the 1989 International Salvage Convention.
In addition to legal theory, this module considers the practical challenges faced during salvage operations, including technological, environmental, and safety considerations.
By the end of this module, the learner should be able to:
- Discuss the legal framework governing salvage.
- Explain the practical implications, and evolving nature of maritime salvage.
- Identify and discuss the key clauses under the Lloyd’s Open Form (LOF 2024) contract.
- Explain the relationship between salvage and general average.
