The September 2025 edition of Gaftaworld is now available on Gafta's website. This contains summaries of harvest progress in those countries across the northern hemisphere where harvest has either been completed or is near completion. Despite unusual, and in some cases difficult, weather conditions in many regions, plentiful supplies of grains and oilseeds are expected from the main producing countries. We are very grateful to all those who contributed reports and updates on their countries' harvest and market situations.
This edition of Gaftaworld also contains a Q&A article with Mr Arsenio Dominguez, Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), who discusses the work of the IMO and how it is addressing trade digitalisation, the emergence of new technologies such as AI and the road to net zero. Bilal Muftuoglu discusses some of the factors affecting grain freight rates in the second half of 2025, including the forthcoming introduction of US port fees for Chinese shipowners and operators. Prospects for Canada's pulse exports are discussed by Gaurav Jain of AgAnalytica, as "trade disputes, shifting demand patterns and emerging competitors are redefining export routes and market strategies." We are delighted too to introduce a new Gafta Qualified Arbitrator, Krishnendu Sayta, who discusses his career and business experience to date.
