Learn how to respond when unexpected events affect a contract and understand the options available when problems and disputes arise.
🔄 New module structure: As part of the updated Distance Learning Programme, Modules 5 and 6 have now been combined into one comprehensive module covering exceptional circumstances, default and damages, arbitration and mediation. This new structure brings the related topics together into a single learning experience.

- Prevention of shipment and delivery clauses, including Force Majeure and strikes
- The implications of ice clauses and frustration
- Responsibility in an emergency and the principles of General Average
- How General Average is calculated and the role of salvage
- The key principles of the Gafta Default Clause and claiming breach of contract
- The principles and process of arbitration, including Rules 125 and 126
- How to prepare written submissions and understand awards and damages
- What mediation is and when it may be suitable
- The application of the Gafta Mediation Rules 128

Your module will become available on your Agribility homepage on the official start date of the course, not before. You’ll then have 12 weeks of access to complete the learning and assessments.
