
Jonathan Waters
General Counsel and Company Secretary, Director Gafta Singapore
Jonathan Waters is Gafta’s General Counsel, Company Secretary and a Director of Gafta Singapore. He is a barrister, arbitrator, Civil Mediation Council Registered Mediator and Gafta’s Mediator. He has held a number of senior in-house legal and management positions in a variety of business sectors, including retail and leisure, healthcare and insurance and has advised, and sat on, a number of company boards as well as being Group Company Secretary for a FTSE listed company. Jonathan has over 35 years PQE, having advised and represented clients, ranging from those listed on the London Stock Exchange to small-medium enterprises to trade associations, and specialises in international arbitration, dispute resolution and commercial contracts. He has been involved in several key reported legal cases involving company law, directors’ duties and employment, including cases in the Supreme Court. He is a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, the Employment Lawyers Association and is a faculty member of the London International Arbitration School. He has a master’s degree in Economic Relations and Employment Law. He presents at domestic and international conferences and spent twelve years as a part-time Law lecturer. Jonathan is the winner of numerous awards reflecting his position as an acknowledged leader in the field of arbitration and dispute resolution, in addition, he has been listed in the Legal 500 and Lawyer Magazine ‘Hot 100’.
